Both teams are in a similar predicament as both are near the bottom of the standings and it seems neither team can find their way out of the basement.
Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson continues to build his team with the draft but there will be a point in time where he'll need to make some moves to acquire better players through trade.
It seems that Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams may be willing to move off Cozens which has raised many eyebrows across the NHL considering that he is a young star on a bad team.
He was drafted 7th overall in the 2019 NHL draft and he would certainly be a big boost for the Blackhawks as Davidson tries to encircle
Connor Bedard with better players that could play at his level.
The first trade option mentioned are two draft picks which are the 2025 first round pick from the Toronto Maple Leafs along with the seventh-round pick from Chicago in exchange for Cozens.
The Leafs pick is not a top 10 protected but should have some value in this draft but it seems to me that the Sabres would want a player in return that could play in the NHL currently.
Since the Blackhawks have many picks this season, the next trade offer could be the 2025 second round pick from Dallas along with the 2025 second round pick from Chicago along with
Isaak Phillips.
This offer would certainly give them a young prospect to work with and two potential prospects that could be impactful in their lineup in the next couple of years.
The Sabres are showing no indications of becoming better anytime soon so adding more prospects to the cupboard would be their best bet.
Lastly, the Blackhawks could offer
Gavin Hayes, Colton Dach and a fourth-round pick from the New York Rangers. This trade offer would be more likely the framework as the team would be acquiring players that could play right now and potentially help the Sabres immediately.
Giving up on a 7th overall pick is very difficult to sell and with the Sabres showing signs of major improvement and holding the cap hit of over $7,000,000 a year, it's possible they would be willing to move off this player and would be a great opportunity for the Blackhawks to help their rebuilding efforts.
