The Chicago Blackhawks have named Nick Foligno as their new captain, making him the 35th in team history, following Jonathan Toews (2008-2023).

"Nick has quickly earned the respect of his teammates and staff," said GM Kyle Davidson. "His leadership in the locker room has been key to helping the team find its identity. He's been a mentor to our young players and leads our veteran group. We're confident he'll thrive as captain in this new era of Blackhawks hockey."

Foligno is 36, and is a 17-year NHL veteran entering his second season with Chicago after being traded from the Boston Bruins.

Last season, he recorded 37 points (17 goals, 20 assists) in 74 games and was a key player on the power play.

«I'm truly honored to be named captain of this storied franchise,» Foligno said. «It's humbling to have the trust of my teammates and the organization, especially at such an important time for the team's future.»

Although it is not Connor Bedard, many are thrilled to have a true leader on and off the ice- until Bedard can fully understand those abilities.
