Some of your favorite digital Blackhawks beat writers and sportscasters have learned unfortunate news today, they're out of a job.

The news was dropped to Greg Boysen today, that he was made redundant. Boysen has covered the Blackhawks on various forms of media since 2011.

The tragic news comes on the cusp of the Holiday season, which is only a week away. A low blow to Boysen and the CHG crew, like Mario Tirabassi, and Jay Zawaski who have been co-workers for some time now.

The move is heartbreaking to those Blackhawks fans who enjoyed his coverage and personality on the CHGO Podcast.

A podcast, which has always been informative, fun, and a good follow.

"Our mission has always been to build the most engaged communities of diehard sports fans," said Brandon Spano, CEO of ALLCITY Network. "This launch brings our unique brand of local sports coverage to even more fans, deepening our commitment to the cities we serve and providing new opportunities for our brand partners to connect with a highly engaged and valuable audience."

What's puzzling about the move is AllCity Network made an announcement in November that they were expanding their reach for their podcasts, including the CHGO brand.

DENVER, Nov. 13, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- ALLCITY Network, a leading digital sports media company, today announced the multi-market launch of new free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels, bringing the best in local sports talk to free streaming and further establishing ALLCITY as the future of local sports media. The channels, which offer local sports content in Chicago, Denver, Philadelphia and Phoenix, are available on leading free streaming platforms Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel, and for Xfinity customers to enjoy on X1 and the Xfinity Stream app. These launches represent the first streaming channels dedicated to local sports to be introduced on any of these three leading platforms.

There's not enough information on the internet to discern the reason for the firing, but there's questionable information out there, about the PHLY network whose been successful.

And if it's problematic that they only have single-digit thousand paying subscribers across 4 markets (and likely only around 2.5k in Philly)? If they are so good at being an ad-supported business, why then is almost all of their web content locked behind a paywall that isn't generating that much revenue?

Leaves you with more questions than answers.
