The Chicago Blackhawks made a major transaction today, as they recalled prospect Drew Commesso from Rockford today.

Commesso, 22, has played in six games with the IceHogs during the 2024-25 campaign, posting a 2-4-0 record with a 3.71 goals-against average and a .854 save percentage.

Could this move be a sign of things to come in the future? Will the Blackhawks be moving a forward, or a goalie in the coming weeks?

Or is it simply a matter of giving Petr Mrazek a rest?

Commesso hasn't been chalked into the lineup just yet, but the news of a recall is surprising.

He spent his summer working and learning from the Bruins' #1 goalie, Jeremy Swayman over the summer.

Commesso "spent the summer training with a lot of NHL guys and spent a lot of time with Jeremy Swayman, really just studying him on the ice and off the ice. It was fantastic. I was super fortunate just to have him with me everyday. He's a great guy to learn from."

Commesso is in year 2 of 3 of a contract that pays him $925K AAV, with a total value of $2.78 Million.

When his contract expires he'll be an RFA at age 23, and will he be ready to join the big club by then?

With Laurent Brossoit and Petr Mrazek playing as the future goalie tandem, his time in Chicago could be blocked.

So what is the beckoning call for this move? A trade? A showcase for future buyers?

Kyle Davidson's moves are opaque with this move really, as neither Mrazek nor Soderblom are injured.

Do you think the Chicago Blackhawks will be making a trade soon for a goaltender due to Petr Mrazek being pulled from the lineup?
