With all that being said, the trade deadline can still be used as a weapon. Not to buy, but to sell. And the Hawks have these three guys they can sell at this year's deadline.
The first being Taylor Hall. Taylor Hall's season was cut short due to an ACL tear in his right knee last year. Hall, 32, could be a valuable winger in the bottom six of a cup contending team. Hall had four points in 10 games last year, but had 61 points the season before with the Boston Bruins. He's also a former Hart winner in 2018 with the New Jersey Devils.
The second of the three, Alec Martinez. Martinez was brought in on a one-year, $4 million deal just a couple months ago. He's 36 years old and will be good as a veteran defenseman if he performs well. Plus, he's only here to keep a seat warm for a younger defender in they deem themselves ready, so why not get something out of him if a young gun takes his spot?
Last but not least, Andreas Athanasiou. Athanasiou has spent the last couple years on the Blackhawks. He's very fast, and can sometimes use his speed to get up the ice in a timely fashion and even create a two-on-one or a breakaway for himself. This is the last year of his contract, and lost his top six spot as the team has gotten better.
