NHL insider Frank Seravalli feels that former Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman who now runs the Edmonton Oilers is preparing to make a major trade to shake up his roster as the team continues to remodel itself.

After an amazing turn around last season, the oilers went on a tear and took the team within a few points of the Vancouver Canucks for the Pacific division. The Oilers then went on a wild an exciting playoff run which put them into game seven of the Stanley Cup finals only to lose to the Florida Panthers.

Seravalli feels that the Oilers are targeting a right-handed shot defenseman as they had moved defenseman Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Ty Emberson. The Oilers have also lost other depth including defenseman Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway to the Saint Louis Blues who signed them to an offer sheet which the Oilers did not match.

«There's other things Edmonton is looking at, I think including a potential trade that could shake things up a little bit more than just the PTO route.»

«All I know is they have different options on the table.»

Since the defence core has thinned out a little, it's likely the Oilers will make a trade which could include more prominent names including Dante Fabbro or Phillip Tomasino while also looking over the PTO route which could see a return of Tyson Barrie while observing Justin Schultz or Kevin Shattenkirk.

It's safe to say in this new regime that's running the Oilers, both Bowman and Jeff Jackson the president of the team are not afraid to make deals and especially to improve the team for another Stanley Cup run.
