The Chicago Blackhawks needed to fill the gap at backup goalie this year and needed to improve in that area.
They did, with Laurent Brossoit, however, NHL insider Frank Seravalli announced that he will miss the first 5-7 weeks of the season due a meniscus repair surgery.
Brossoit spent last season on the Winnipeg Jets and performed phenomenally. Brossoit posted a 2.00 GAA and a .927 SV% while having a 15-5 record.
However, the Blackhawks won't get the luxury of having a reliable backup yet, as he won't start the year. Instead, the Hawks will look to Arvid Soderblom, who really struggled last year, and wasn't the favorite among the fans.
Hopefully, Soderblom improved over the off-season, and can be somewhat reliable in the couple weeks Chicago needs him.
