Former Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane chose to stay with the Blackhawks archrivals in the Detroit Red Wings to which he released a statement today on where he feels the team is going and that he is ready for another season.
During the final few weeks of the season going into the playoffs, several reports surfaced at a potential reunion between the Blackhawks and Kane which was quickly shot down by general manager Kyle Davidson. The Blackhawks made it clear that the organization was moving forward without Kane which led him to spend some time deciding to which team he wanted to sign with.
All indications seemed he wanted to go to free agency with Detroit general manager Steve Yzerman and Kane himself voicing their stance of a potential breakup. This did not occur as he signed a one-year deal worth $6.5 million which holds a cap hit of 4 million.
Kane had undergone extensive surgery to his hips and had hip resurfacing surgery which led to his rehabilitation over the course of last year, after he announced, he was returning to the NHL he signed a $2.75 million deal at one year with the Detroit Red Wings. The wings fought straight to game 82 and almost made the playoffs.
Kane chose to sign with Detroit for several reasons including playing with his friend and former Blackhawks teammate Alex Debrincat. It appears that he'll have another year with him and a chance to try to put the Detroit Red Wings back into playoff contention.
