Yesterday afternoon, a major announcement came from Blackhawks general managerKyle Davidson as he had fired Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson to which four names have surfaced as potential replacements.

Currently, Davidson has given the bench to rookie interim head coach Anders Sorensen who was the bench boss for the Rockford Icehogs.

Anders Sorensen

Sorensen is considered the weakest of the four names as would be the first Swedish born head coach in the NHL. Since He has no experience as a head coach in the NHL and the Blackhawks at the bottom of the standings, it's likely Davidson will give him all the room in time he needs to learn how to do this job and to see if he can handle it. The Blackhawks roster will not be changing anytime soon until at least the trade deadline.

Jay Woodcroft

Woodcroft who had spent many years with the Edmonton Oilers organization through the parent club and through the Bakersfield condors had emerged as a potential replacement for Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde.

Woodcroft's experience with the Oilers certainly would benefit the Blackhawks as he had worked with young players for the bulk of his career. He also transformed the Oilers and took them to a conference final in his first season. He will certainly get some consideration if Sorensen does not work out.

Bruce Boudreau

After Boudreau's awful exit with the Vancouver Canucks to which many fans were behind him after being terribly treated, would certainly welcome a chance to give back behind the bench and would bring a wealth of experience to the Blackhawks that this team so desperately needs. He has been a teacher of the game for many years and has had extensive leadership and great knowledge of the game.

Joel Quenneville

Lastly, the most interesting and controversial choice could be the return of three times Stanley Cup champ Joel Quenneville. Recently reinstated by the NHL, Quenneville had some choices that he could look at including a return to the Blackhawks organization.

Even though this choice is considered #1 it will be difficult to see if the Blackhawks would be willing to let him come back to the organization after what has happened over the past several years with the Kyle beach incident. Other coaches have returned to their teams including Lindy Ruff to the Buffalo Sabres which could certainly lead to Quenneville heading back to the Windy City.

No matter the case, the Blackhawks will watch Sorensen to see how he does behind the bench and it's safe to say that general manager called Davidson will have his lists ready of people he'd like to phone in case this plan fails.
