It paid off, as Bertuzzi would score the Blackhawks one and only goal tonight against Jake Oettinger and the Dallas Stars.
The goal was scored with 9:00 left in the 3rd period and was a power-play goal assisted by Connor Bedard, and Ryan Donato.
The goal was Bertuzzi's 5th of the year, giving him 6 points this season( 5 G, 1 A), while this was Bedard's 13th point of the season( 3 G, 10 A). Donato showed a ton of determination tonight in an attempt to score another goal but would land a power-play assist earning him his 10th point( 7 G, 3 A) of the year.
The Blackhawks played their best tonight and were unable to overcome the DeBoer-led Dallas Stars.
With tonight's 3-1 win, they move on to their next game with a 9-4-0 record, and the Hawks fall to a 5-10-1 record.
The team did what it always does, start slow and would execute a good forecheck against the Stars late in the third in an attempt to generate offense.
But they were unable to build enough pressure in the Stars' defensive zone often enough to dominate the game.
Bertuzzi's goal was a bright spot in a dark game, plagued by inconsistent play tonight. The team will once again have to go back to the drawing board as they take on the rival Minnesota Wild on Sunday.
Can the Blackhawks and Bertuzzi flip the switch to move past their slow start to the season?
Hopefully, the pressure they build into the 3rd period can find a way to seep into the first two periods as well.
You can't win a game playing only a full 20 minutes.
