NEWS: Blackhawks officially recall defensemen Wyatt Kaiser
The Chicago Blackhawks recalled defenseman Wyatt Kaiser from the AHL's Rockford IceHogs on an emergency loan, per CapFriendly.
Kaiser returns to the team after being sent down in late December. This move allows the Blackhawks to utilize their remaining standard recalls following the trade deadline. Kaiser's return is crucial as the team deals with injuries, with one defenseman potentially out for the next game against the Kings (Zaitsev).
Drafted in the third round in 2020, Kaiser played 23 games earlier in the season, tallying four assists and a +1 rating. Despite his positive contributions, his defensive play still needs improvement.
Blackhawks have called up Wyatt Kaiser from Rockford. He hasn't played an NHL game since Dec. 19.
However, Kaiser remains a promising prospect, ranking 11th overall in Chicago's system. With three goals and 15 points in 31 games for Rockford this season, he has shown his potential.
Kaiser's current contract, signed in March last year, carries a $917K cap hit, and he will become a restricted free agent in 2025.
