In the summer of 2010, the Blackhawks chose to replace their starting goaltender Antti Niemi with NHL veteran starter Marty Turco who was signed on this day August 2nd 2010.
Many Blackhawks fans felt that Turco could help them win another Stanley Cup after winning in 2009-10. He signed a one year deal with the team and did not start as well as they hoped. As the season wore on, it became clear that the Blackhawks were looking for another goaltender which brought in Corey Crawford.
Crawford took over the reins after the midway point of the season and became the starter for many years to come. Turco had a record that year of 11-11-3.
His career began in 2001 and spanned till 2012 where he played for three NHL organizations including the Dallas Stars, the Blackhawks and the Boston Bruins. In his career he played 543 NHL games, it went on a record of 275-176-26 with the goals against him 2.36 and a save percentage of .910.
