The team wouldn't put up a good effort enough to score despite multiple chances from the team, on Saturday including one breakaway from Connor Bedard.
Bedard would go scoreless last night, with 2 shots on goal, with a -1 rating and 20:11 time on ice.
You always need someone like Bedard to be a factor in a game, especially against one of the bottom-dwellers in the NHL, like the Sabres, who until last night were 1-4-1. Now 2-4-1, the Sabres got a notch on their belts against the "new and improved" Blackhawks.
If Bedard can't score he will find other ways to contribute right?
Draw penalties, play defense, and continue to develop his two-way game, which is sorely needed when it comes to playing in the NHL.
That was, unfortunately, not the cast as even when Buffalo Sabres winger JJ Peterka would trip him, and Steve Kozari and other NHL linesmen wouldn't even make a call.
This seems to be a regular happening in the NHL, as the referees miss more and more calls. This is an example of an institution failing, and whether you think it's referees influencing the game or being just terrible at the job, something needs to change.
Many in the NHL media will say "There's not much we can do" which honestly is true.
As fans, we can express our unhappiness through official channels, but the players will need to exercise their institutional power through the NHLPA to hold referees accountable, as they're more often than not, loose cannons.
