Pittsburgh Penguins star player reportedly willing to test free-agency and join another NHL team
With Kyle Dubas in charge, the Pittsburgh Penguins are fighting to make the playoffs as a wildcard team.
It has been a small turnaround for the same team that didn't make it to the playoffs last year.
That may not be enough for
Jake Guentzel, who despite being a positive force on ice every night and part of a team that is 7-2-1 in its last ten games, has other plans.
The Penguins forward, Guentzel, has been the subject of many rumors lately, as he will be a UFA after this season.
As reported by NHL Insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, he is going to test free agency, leaving his partner Sid The Adult high and dry in Pittsburgh while he is trying to get paid.
It has been stated by Pagnotta that a contract will not be discussed during the season between the team and Guentzel.
Guentzel's destiny seems to be to be traded at the trade deadline or to find a new team during free agency in the off-season.
This season, Guentzel has produced 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points in 37 games with the Penguins, with a hefty 6 Million dollar cap hit.
Kyle Dubas' next move for the 1st liner remains to be seen. All we know is that moving his contract off the books would be a huge move for the team, as they currently have $17, 350.00 in cap space.
It is possible that he could become a rental for a contender down the road, or he could choose to stay with
Sidney Crosby.
