Kyle Davidson: Ivan Demidov makes huge announcement and it's a blockbuster
Ivan Demidov is the consensus 2nd overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, and this announcement should shed all doubt regarding his future.
Demidov has stated that he will be ready to turn pro, as soon as next season and there should be no concerns regarding his KHL contract.
To make a good-faith effort to show his intentions, he has begun rehabilitation in North America.
Whoever scores Demidov at the NHL Draft will acquire the next generational talent:
«According to what we were able to learn while strolling in the lobby of the chic hotel where the elite of the NHL are gathered this week, it is that the Demidov clan ensures that the young Russian plans to make the jump in North America at the end of his contract in Russia, i.e. at the end of the next season. - Kevin Dubé, TVA Sports
Demidov even turned down generous contract extensions in the KHL, to ensure he will arrive in North America for the 2024-2025 NHL season.
It sounds like, whoever wins the Demidov sweepstakes won't have the same issues, as they have with the Flyers
Matvei Michkov:
«It seems that SKA wanted to ensure that Demidov would have a long-term agreement with the team, which the Russian player's clan refused in order to keep their doors open and ensure they could make the jump to South America. North, if he wanted, without having to wait three years like Michkov.» - Kevin Dubé, TVA Sports
SKA doesn't want to put the time, effort and resources into developing players in the KHL who will leave for North America quickly.
It seems as if, this is the nail in the coffin for Demidov's time in SKA St. Petersburg.
And in another positive note, the Chicago Blackhawks and Kyle Davidson will be able to meet with Demidov before the draft.
He will be available to meet with teams from June 18 to 23rd for a private evaluation camp.
If Demidov is still available by the 2nd pick, the Blackhawks should swing for the fences and select the generational talent.
