The Blackhawks didn't have a game today. Instead, they held an open practice at Fifth Third Arena. Well, it's never a slow day in Chicago, as people noticed forward Reese Johnson wasn't out with the team.
The media after the practice asked about head coach Luke Richardson about the matter, and he said that Johnson is out due to concussion protocol.
Luke Richardson said Landon Slaggert will make his NHL debut on Friday vs. Los Angeles.
Reese Johnson (concussion protocol) will be out, and Arvid Söderblom will start in goal. #Blackhawks
Johnson, 25 years old, has been struggling, as he only has five points in 42 games.
So who's replacing him? Well, the Blackhawks just signed forward Landon Slaggert to a two-year entry-level contract. Coming out of his senior year Notre Dame, the 21 year old had a 20-goal season and really impressed.
Last game there was talk of who was going to be axed from the lineup, but with Johnson out, the decision was easy.
We'll see who keeps the spot in the future.
