Another NHL scam abounds
It's not uncommon for the NHL to be slow to catch on to trends, given the leadership within the league.
However, they've once again entered the scene rather late with a new offering.
The NHL is launching two new series of NFT's, digital collectibles backed by the league. In other news, the league is poised to announce a new auto sponsorship with the Ford Pinto.
The NHL will now be providing NFTs, which are digital collectibles that aren't worth much these days, much like artwork, but on your phone and digital ONLY.
A non-fungible token is a unique digital identifier that is recorded on a blockchain, and is used to certify ownership and authenticity. It cannot be copied, substituted, or subdivided. The ownership of an NFT is recorded in the blockchain and can be transferred by the owner, allowing NFTs to be sold and traded.
The league has partnered with Upper Deck, a sports card company, to provide these NFTs on the blockchain.
Despite the fact that the NFT market has already crashed, and the failure of NBA's Top Shot NFT should have served as a warning, it appears the NHL is not concerned with market analysis.
Another day late and dollar short for a league run by dinosaurs.
