onathan Toews, the captain of Chicago Blackhawks, is rumored to be considering retiring at the end of the current NHL season, according to a report by John Dietz of The Daily Herald. Toews, who is battling long-COVID and Chronic Immune Response Syndrome, missed the entire 2020-21 season due to his health issues. Despite returning to action this season, the 34-year-old hasn't played since late January due to the lingering effects of his ailments.

Although Toews hasn't been ruled out for the remainder of the season, there are doubts about his ability to continue playing hockey beyond this year due to the complications arising from his health issues. This would make the prospect of signing an incentive-based deal for next season (if eligible) an unattractive option for Toews as he would have to tie a part of his compensation to games played.

Having played his entire 15-year NHL career with the Blackhawks, Toews is a franchise legend who has played an integral role in their three Stanley Cup wins in 2010, 2013, and 2015. Despite being a respected icon in Chicago, it appears that his time with the team - and possibly his career - could come to an unexpected end as he contemplates his future.
