The Blackhawks will be buying out both Henrik Borgstrom and Brett Connolly, while this may not be a shocking loss it does seem a bit confusing. With Borgstrom being under the age of 26 he could have been stashed in the minors with his contract not counting against the cap. While Connolly was regarded as a great veteran presence for the kids developing in Rockford last year and some believed that could have earned him a spot on the NHL roster this fall. Both also only had a year remaining on their deals and now the Blackhawks will spend the next two years paying off their contracts (Not that cap space is important for at least the next few years).
Maybe Davidson is just trying to shed every player/move done by the previous regime as now Riley Stillman is the only player left from that trade with Florida (And Lucas Carlson is the only one left from it down in Florida). This does raise some question marks as to what the opening night roster might look like this fall as that is two more NHL capable bodies gone off the team, and likely some more to follow. Could continue to be a very busy summer folks.
