Blackhawks prospect Ethan Del-Mastro has won his second gold medal in consecutive seasons for Team Canada at the World Juniors. Del-Mastro was drafted by the Blackhawks in the 4th round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.
Del-Mastro is an intriguing prospect in the Blackhawks pipeline, adding to the numerous defensive prospects waiting in the wings for an opportunity in the NHL. Del-Mastro is 6'4» and weighs 209 pounds which fuels his physical style of play. Del-Mastro is also known for being a defense first defenseman, which is a great skill to have. Many thought Del-Mastro would go higher in the draft, but the Blackhawks may have found a diamond in the rough.
The 19-year-old was the Captain of the Mississauga Steelheads last season and is set to wear the «C» again this upcoming season. Over his first two seasons in the OHL, Del-Mastro has tallied 58 points in 125 games. While there is a log jam in the Blackhawks pipeline on the blueline, Del-Mastro should get his first look in the AHL whenever he decides the time is right to make the jump from the OHL to Rockford. While Del-Mastro is no guarantee, it appears the Blackhawks made a great choice on draft night.
