In the current NHL off-season, players are given enough time off to complete their training and get accustomed to their new residence if they have been traded or signed by another team.

In a way that he did not expect, Bo Horvat is getting acquainted with Nassau County in a way that he didn't bargain for, as he and his wife are named as defendants in a lawsuit in the local county's highest court.

"the project received full approval from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and stated that no work being done on the project affects the pond."

NY Islander Bowie Horvat, Plandome Manor sued over landfill decision #isles

A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Eastern LLC, owner of property around Leeds Pond, who is seeking a reversal of a recent decision, as well as the Village of Plandome Manor, which is named in the suit. It was approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) that Horvat and his wife will be using an area near the pond for a fill, which was approved by the state DEC which believes that no work will have a negative effect on the pond.

According to opponents, the fill will cause ecological harm to the pond, as the amount of fill needed to fill the pond is 350 cubic yards, and without a permit from the Village, the fill can be used for 50 cubic yards without an application.

It's not clear why the Horvats need the fill, but listed on the court documents is Bowie Horvat, who recently listed his Vancouver home after being traded from the Canucks to the Islanders. The Horvats were allowed to proceed after a public hearing with legal representation.
