Busy summer ahead for Hawks with key dates coming.
This offseason and summer is one of the most anticipated and exciting times for many teams. It seems the NHL has reached a crossroads in terms of what teams need to do to restructure their money to fall into cap compliance. Over 15 teams in the NHL are over the cap and require shedding contracts and trying to figure out how to make everything fit.
With the salary cap limit not going higher than $1 million this season coming, this will make it extremely difficult for many teams to do so. As Jason Gregor mentions in his tweet that several key dates are coming up which will affect many teams, including the Chicago Blackhawks.
Between June 15th and July 5th, those dates could chart a very different course for the Blackhawks. There's plenty of opportunity for general manager Kyle Davidson to look through the lists of players that will be available through unrestricted free agency, buyout windows, and also trades at the NHL draft could transform the Blackhawks quickly.
Another date to circle is July 1st free agency opens and this will also be a key moment for the Blackhawks as they will be able to use their there is over $40 million cap space to acquire new talent that will help protect and bolster Connor Bedard next season.
It's going to be a fascinating time for the Blackhawks and the rest of the NHL. It's also going to be a fun time to see the changes coming.
