The Edmonton Oilers are currently facing financial constraints with only about $5.6 million in cap room, which may not be enough to re-sign defenseman Evan Bouchard and center Ryan McLeod.
Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli pointed out that the Oilers could be the biggest losers from Philipp Kurashev's recent arbitration award of $2.25 million per season with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Edmonton might have hoped to sign McLeod for less than $2 million, but the Kurashev deal could now serve as a comparable in negotiations. McLeod's stronger performance last season could make it challenging for the Oilers to secure a deal within their budget.
