Chicago Blackhawks make Colorado Avalanche teammates turn on each other during interviews
In a thrilling game, the Chicago Blackhawks stunned the former Stanley Cup Champs, the Colorado Avalanche with a 3-2 victory on Tuesday night, marking a significant upset.
The hero of the night was Tyler Johnson, who broke the 2-2 tie with his impressive 7th goal of the season during the third period for the Blackhawks.
Despite the sweet taste of success for the Blackhawks, not everyone was cheering in the Avalanche camp.
Defenseman Devon Toews, who signed a $7.25M extension this off-season openly expressed his frustration with certain teammates whom he believes might be overestimating their performance on the ice.
Toews didn't mince his words:
"I think we got some guys that think they're playing well, and I think they're kidding themselves at this point. It's frustrating to play out there when you got guys that think they're playing well, and you have no idea what play they're gonna make or where they're gonna be on the ice."
Toews, a significant player with almost 30 minutes of playtime in the game, also critiqued the overall effort against the Blackhawks, a team with just nine wins before their surprise victory over the Avalanche.
«It's our awareness of what it takes to win hockey games. That's the difference, having guys in this room self-aware that it takes 60 minutes, a hard game play to play against any team in this league. This league is so good. It's hard to win any night against any team in this league. You have to show up."
With a chance for redemption on the horizon, the Avalanche will face the struggling Ottawa Senators at Ball Arena in Denver tomorrow night. Ottawa's recent struggles might provide the Avalanche with an opportunity to regain their momentum and confidence on home ice.
