The Chicago Blackhawks surprised some when they announced that they were starting their GM search.
Considering that the position has been vacant for months, it was pretty shocking that they would randomly start the search just before the trade deadline.
From all previous accounts, interim general manager Kyle Davidson would navigate the team through the rest of season before the team would start the search during the offseason.
Davidson is expected to be a top candidate either way.
A detail regarding the new search has some people scratching their head.
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Blackhawks will start looking at people from the baseball world.
"Jamie Faulkner, who's running the GM search in Chicago, she has a history in baseball. I heard rumors they were going to interview people in the baseball world for the GM job.
They'll interview people outside of hockey, and I'm wondering if there's any chance of that"
It worked with John McDonough to a certain extent, but of course there's a huge different between team president and general manager.
Is this setting up to be a disaster?
