Earlier this week, Hawks superstar Patrick Kane declared that he would appreciate the opportunity to have some input with the new GM on incoming and outgoing player decisions, which definitely speaks to Kane's desire to help turn things around in Chicago.
Is Kane overstepping by suggesting that players should have some input on decisions that affect the roster? After all, these are management and coaching decisions. Players are players and their focus should be on what happens on the ice and in the locker room. But is there a place for the game to evolve to the point of allowing players this kind of sway with management?
Anyway, with that aside, The Athletic's Arthur Staple made a wild suggestion that perhaps the New York Rangers should look into bringing Kane back to his home State for a Stanley Cup run with the Rangers.
Kane is very much still at the top of his game and while the Hawks appear to be pretty far off from any sort of contention, Kane is still at the top of his game and could net the Blackhawks a sizable return in a trade and could also put the Rangers over the top and earn himself a 4th Stanley Cup ring.
The primary hurdles here are Kane's enormous contract and no-move clause. Should Kane be willing to waive his NMC to head to New York and the Hawks be willing to retain some salary, it could be a situation that benefits both sides. It would also be the end of an era in Chicago and it would be very hard to let go.
