The Montreal Canadiens and their fan base are still reeling from the news that they have lost their prized forward, Kirby Dach. After taking a heavy check into the Chicago Blackhawks' boards a few games ago, it was revealed that Dach's injury was a torn ACL and MCL ligament in his knee.
These devastating injuries will take months to heal, and the prognosis is well over six months.
The Canadiens stated that his season is essentially over, leaving many fans wondering how or if he could return to the same form.
It's well known that Dach has suffered severe injuries in the past. He snapped his wrist in several places during a warm-up game of the 2021 World Junior Championships, which required major surgery and months of healing. However, it did not stop him from returning to the NHL.
Recently, during the airing of the "The Sick Podcast" by Tony Marinaro, TSN hockey insider and former general manager of the Calgary Flames, Craig Button, explained his take on how Dach will return to the NHL after he has completed his recovery.
He said,
"There was a time when I would have said, 'Yes, there might be a reason for concern.' Moreover, if Kirby Dach were a different kind of player, reckless on the ice and putting himself in vulnerable situations, that could add some concern. However, he's not that kind of player, and thanks to advances in medical science for such injuries, I have no doubt that Kirby Dach will come back stronger and as good as he was."
I also feel that he will be back with the Canadiens next season, and his play will return to the levels he had before.
As the Canadiens are currently in the middle of the rebuilding phase and highly likely to finish in the bottom portion of the league this year, it's expected they will be in the lottery conversation once again.
