NHL Player Willing To Be The First Fined As he Breaks NHL rules over pride tape
The Arizona Coyotes have had a controversial past couple of years, and with their recent signing in July, they will have much more than they bargained for.
Having signed Travis Dermott to a one-year, two-way deal, the Coyotes now have a depth defenseman who can be sent down if needed.
I just noticed Travis Dermott is quietly using
@PrideTape
tonight! This is what allyship looks like folks! #Yotes #HockeyISforEveryone
He did this knowing he might get fined. What's the point in using the tape if no one is allowed to see it and talk about it.
Currently, he has a team-friendly contract worth $800K AAV, which is above the league minimum.
While the Coyotes took on the Ducks tonight, the defenseman known to be an ally of the LGBT community took the first step towards revolting against the NHL.
As a result of his use of pride tape against the Anaheim Ducks, he has demonstrated his allyship with the community, knowing he would be fined.
Major W to Dermott for being the first guy to keep using pride tape
There seems to be a possibility that several NHL teams may join Scott Laughton's cause, so the NHL is going to have to rethink its policy.
For now, it's the little actions that count and this is one that reverberates across the league.
The NHL has officially prohibited the use of Pride Tape on the ice during warm-ups, games, and practices. A spokesperson for the league has confirmed this updated policy.
