Dubas is hoping still to re-sign pending unrestricted free agent Jack Campbell who was a huge fan favorite in Leafs Nation who nicknamed him "Soupy." However Dubas is looking at his options as back up plans including making a trade with the battle of Ontario rivals The Ottawa Senators.
It appears as though there is a real chance veteran goaltender Matt Murray could end up playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs next season revealed from Sportsnet's Hockey Insider Elliotte Friedman.
The Maple Leafs have reportedly been aggressively pursuing a goaltender from the Ottawa Senators Matt Murray.
Friedman first broke the news on Saturday afternoon, reporting "that talks about Murray had intensified between the two sides on Sunday."
"Word is that Ottawa and Toronto have intensified discussions around Matt Murray, We will see how things play out, but those conversations continue."

Last season Murray only played in 20 games and recording a 3.05 goals against average and a .906 save percentage. However Murray also carries a massive cap hit of $6.25 million per season over each of the 2 seasons left on his deal if a trade does indeed happen the Ottawa Senators General Manager Pierre Dorian would definitely need to retain a huge part of Murray's salary.
Fun fact you might not know there's a connection between Murray and Dubas as Kyle Dubas was general manager of the So Greyhounds during Murray's 4 seasons with that team in the Ontario Hockey League.
