The Calgary Flames had what most would call a successful season. Finishing on top of the Pacific Division with a 50-21-11 record and 111 points on the year.
However the Flames were built to be a Stanley Cup team and they failed to reach their ultimate goal losing to the Edmonton Oilers in the second round.
Now that the playoffs are over like every other team there's going to be changes. One of the biggest changes could come with Johnny Gaudreau expected to test the free agent market, But the Flames gave Johnny Hockey a new contract offer with a salary of $9.5 million dollars annually.
The biggest surprise comes from Hockey Insider Andy Strickland who shared the news the Calgary Flames General Manager Brad Treliving is looking at the possibility of trading
Matthew Tkachuk. Treliving has never fully been onboard with Tkachuk signing him to a 3 year deal instead of long term like alot of other teams have been doing with their star players.
There's no question Treliving would get a huge return for Tkachuk but the backlash from Flames fans could also be huge trading away their best player
Tkachuk scored 42 goals and 104 points this past season and was drafted 6th overall by the Flames in 2016. Tkachuk also is a Memorial Cup champion scoring the overtime winner for the London Knights vs the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
