The Chicago Blackhawks have had a season marred in controversy, lousy play and dwindling attendance. Sitting at the bottom of the standings in the NHL this season, it was only a matter of time before the winds of change blew through the organization.
We knew the Blackhawks would be sellers at the trade deadline on March 21st; what we didn't realize is how much interest there'd be from around the league.
According to Chicago insider Charlie Roumeliotis, 21 scouts from 17 teams around the NHL were at Thursday's Blackhawks versus Blue Jackets game.
The Ducks, Bruins, Sabres, Stars, Panthers, Kings, Wild, Preds, Rangers, Islanders, Penguins, Sharks, Kraken, Blues, Lightning, Leafs and Canucks all had scouts or staff in attendance Thursday night.
Thus, signalling that it's effectively open-season as the deadline approaches for Chicago
In my opinion, the Blackhawks are overdue for a complete teardown; they need to start fresh and build from the ground up, and it appears they are about to do just that.
Chicago has entered the most challenging part of the re-build, selling everything they can, stockpiling on draft picks and starting from the ground up.
Over half the NHL had scouts or reps at Thursday's tilt, signifying a large amount of interest in what the Blackhawks' have to offer. The question is, who, if anyone is untouchable in Chicago?
Mark March 21st on your calendars, Blackhawks fans; it looks like a new era is about to begin in Chicago. Who will move where, and what will the returns be? One thing is for sure; the pain will continue at least for a bit longer
