Patrice Bergeron, Nick Foligno and Brad Marchand all commented on the signing and they were not too happy:
Bergeron:
''That was the first thing that, I guess, came out of my mouth. The acquisition of Miller goes against what we are as a culture and as a team, and for me as a person.
Nick Foligno:
"It's hard for us to swallow.''
Marchand had a lengthy response to the signing, but to sum it up he stated the same as Bergeron, but also added in he does not support the Bruins managements decision regarding the signing of Mitchell Miller.
Miller's agent has recently released the following statement via social media, in hopes to get people to ''hear out'' the player who was charged in a bullying matter and also was exposed for being a racist.
Here is Mitchell Miller's agents statement:
THE STATEMENT IS AS SHOWN:
''The decision to take on Mitchell Miller as a client was not one that 02K Sports Management made lightly. As one of the very few Black NHL agents in the league, a member of the NHL's Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and as a Black man who has spent his entire life in hockey, I understand the gravity of the situation and respect the fierce emotions and reactions to the initial reporting and commentary around Mr. Miller's past behavior.
02K Sports Management would not have agreed to represent Mitchell without months of research, deliberation, introspection within our organization, and conversations with outside advisors. Moreover, when deliberating whether to represent Mitchell, we learned throughout the last six years, Mitchell has been volunteering with organizations such as:
-Spread the Word Campaign
-Little Miracles
-Adaptive Sports of Ohio
-Gliding Stars
Furthermore, this summer, Mitchell and I met with and committed to working with the following:
-Bill Proudman, White Men as Full Diversity Partners
-The Carnegie Initiative
-Hockey Equality
Also, before signing his contract, Mitchell met with and committed to working with local community projects such as:
-Bullying prevention program
-After-school program
-Youth guidance program
We believe in restorative justice. Mitchell and I are on that path together, and I welcome you all to join us. 02K Sports Management believes in accountability, and so does our client. After weighing all of these factors, we came to the conclusion to embrace the forward-thinking approach of Professor Loretta Ross and choose to
"counsel not cancel" as the path to racial healing and understanding.''
So, does this change your perspective on the Bruins signing Miller? Personally, it does not. The only reason these statements and apolgies have been sent out this week is in regards to him signing with the Bruins, if he didn't sign, there would be nothing.
Keep in mind the bullying act took place in 2016, and Miller only chose to apologize last week... over a instagram text message.
