The Calgary Flames and defenseman, MacKenzie Weegar, have agreed to a 8-year contract extension that totals $50M. Weegar will be earning around $6.25M a year. Elliote Friedman with the report:

Weegar, 28, was traded to the Flames this offseason from the Panthers as part of the Tkachuk-Huberdeau trade. He is coming off of back-to-back impressive seasons where he has put up 80 points in 134 games from the blue line.

Weegar took another step forward last year after taking a huge step forward the year prior, though, as the defenseman racked up a +40 +/-, 156 blocks, 179 hits, and 74 takeaways while being on the ice for all but 2 games for the Panthers.

Weegar finished 14th in the James Norris Trophy voting for the best defenseman in the league. The Flames have high hopes for Weegar as he enters his age 28 season.
