Since November 19th, 2023, Corey Perry has not played in an NHL game, and his contract was terminated by Kyle Davidson and the Chicago Blackhawks on November 30th.

Having met with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, he is now eligible to be reinstated and play in the league again.

It was speculated that no NHL team would want to sign him again after the hijinks, but now he is a free agent.

Perry, who has plenty of playoff and Stanley Cup finals experience, is a great depth forward available with playoffs just around the corner for a select number of NHL teams. Anyone with the budget and need for him would benefit from having him.

It seems likely that the Edmonton Oilers will try to sign the bottom-6 pest, as per some NHL Insiders.

Many clubs, including the Edmonton Oilers, are looking for forwards with these intangibles, according to NHL Reporter Jim Matheson.

Besides Jim Matheson, Bob Stauffer also said the Oilers were interested in Perry, which was confirmed by him.

The Oilers are on a hot streak, and with Knoblauch at the helm, they should shore up their bottom-six, and Perry would be a great addition.

The intangibles Perry possesses, such as being an agitator and having an aggressive style of play on the ice, are factors that could contribute to the Oilers' playoff push.

It's also worth mentioning that before arriving in Chicago, he scored 40 points in Tampa Bay.

While Perry hasn't lost the talent that brought him multiple Stanley Cup finals appearances, the Oilers can acquire him at a discount and hope that he can be an added offensive force.
