With all the moving pieces in La Belle Provence, and the new regime, the future has been discussed in spades throughout Habs nation. When you think of the future, rookies and prospects are two huge factors. For Montreal, it seems one prospects name has fallen under the radar.
Cue the name Lukas Vejdemo, the young Swedish centre. Vejdemo, 23, was drafted in the NHL Draft , and played his draft plus-one season in . While Vejdemo has been playing in Laval, with the Rocket, he has made his NHL debut and even has a few NHL milestones under his belt, such as: first NHL game played, and first NHL goal.
What has caused Vejdemo's name to drop out of the Habs brass' conversations. His professional statistics, are as follows; through 13 NHL games, the young Swedish centreman has managed two goals, zero assists. In the AHL with the Laval Rocket Vejdemo posted 35 goals, 42 assists and 77 points in 174 games.
Vejdemo doesn't wow you with dynamic end-to-end rushes, or precision passing or even a laser of a shot. However, his effectiveness isn't going to be measured by offensive output, but rather his responsible defensive play. The Laval Rocket centre plays a two-way game, which is predicated on high defensive IQ, be it through killing penalities, winning faceoffs or supporting his defenceman, Vejdemo contributes in the goal prevention aspect of the game.
Stay tuned for post training camp article, and player updates.
