The Michigan Supreme Court just helped out Vladimir Konstantinov
As Michigan's car insurance system changed, Vladimir Konstantinov thought his future was at risk.
Despite battling back from brain damage and paralysis, there was fear that all may be lost after he willed his recovery from his wreck following the Red Wings Stanley Cup win in 1997.
Incredible news for Vladimir Konstantinov from the recent Michigan Supreme Court ruling.
The outpouring of support for Vladdy was great & all, but he shouldn't have had to rely on donations and signing memorabilia to be able to afford his care.
After the changes in Michigan insurance rules, Konstantinov was expected to lose 24/7 care.
Due to the changes in the law, he and 18k other Michigan residents were under threat of being institutionalized; a GoFundMe was used to help him.
Because crash survivors are entitled to lifetime payments, the state has sought to cap benefits. In the end, the Michigan supreme court ruled that Konstantinov and others' contractual rights to care and reasonable payments were affirmed and would not be stripped.
The news is great for Konstantinov and other crash survivors in Michigan.
