Teammate Adam Henrique seriously is attempting to convince others on the team that they should talk to Ryan Getzlaf about coming back next season.

Of course, Henrique is a bit sorry that with Getzlaf gone, he wouldn't be able to feed him a nifty behind-the-back as he did to collect Getzlaf's 737th career assist.

«Absolutely not,» Getzlaf said when asked if he considered a shot. «There wasn't a chance in my mind I was shooting that puck. It's funny how those things fall into your lap and happen that way. I couldn't ask for a better way to finish it.»

The 36-year-old Getzlaf tops the Ducks' team in points, assists, playoff scoring and games played, and he served as the Ducks' captain for a team-record 12 seasons.

No doubt he will be missed, thus the idea Henrique came up with to try to pry him back into service next season.

It's not uncommon for pro athletes to retire and then change their mind. Look at Tom Brady who did exactly that.

Getzlaf has collected 282 goals and 737 assists in 1,157 NHL games. With that ratio of goals vs assists, it's easy to see that he is the consummate playmaker and will be missed.

While the Ducks do have some up-and-coming young players like Troy Terry (36-G, 29-A), and Trevor Zegras (22-G, 37-A), Getzlaf could continue to add that veteran presence on a young team.

It may never happen, yet you can't blame Henrique for trying. Getzlaf was an amazing NHL player, and if he decided to come back, why would the Ducks deny him that opportunity?
