In the midst of a disastrous season, the Montreal Canadiens are expected to be one of the busiest sellers up until the March 21st NHL trade deadline and this morning they made the first of what's expected to be a series of moves, sending Tyler Toffoli to the Calgary Flames for two draft picks a, a prospect and Tyler Pitlick:
According to Pierre LeBrun, there are conditions attached to the 1st Round Pick:
As for prospect Emil Heinnemann, it's the second time in his career he's been traded despite yet having to play in the NHL. He came to Calgary via Florida in the Sam Bennett trade last year and LeBrun says he was highly coveted by the Canadiens:
Toffoli spent the first 8 seasons of his NHL career as a member of the Los Angeles Kings. He has managed 182 goals and 370 career points over a 614-game NHL career, including 28 during last year's abbreviated season. He should certainly help provide some much-needed secondary scoring for the Flames.
Toffoli is under contract through the 2023-2024 season for a team-friendly AAV of $4.25M.
