Two of Corey Perry's teammates finally tell the truth about his scandal
Blackhawks Players Share Thoughts on Corey Perry's Exit
Following the recent controversy involving Corey Perry, two players from the Chicago Blackhawks have now spoken out about their former teammate's departure.
After a period of quietness, Nick Foligno and Connor Murphy have decided to shed light on the situation surrounding Corey Perry.
Perry's contract was terminated last month for violating team conduct, a decision labeled as 'disturbing' by General Manager Kyle Davidson.
Connor Murphy, reflecting on Perry's impact on the team, spoke positively about the veteran's influence on the young Blackhawks:
"I come from some experience of just being here, having some comfort with the staff and team, and knowing what we've been through and what doesn't work. Knowing [my way] around can help with anyone who's either uncomfortable or seems like they're trying to find themselves in a new organization."
- Connor Murphy
Nick Foligno addressed the void left by Perry's departure, emphasizing the energy and camaraderie he brought to the team:
"There was a little bit of a lull on that road trip when the dust settled, and you realized [Corey is] really not coming back. You could tell the energy he brings...was missing. You mourn that loss, and then you realize, Alright, it's not changing, so what are we going to do to get the energy back?' We realized other guys have to step up. A younger guy is more willing to speak up and more comfortable in a home environment. You get to chat with them more about their lives. Little things come out of those dinners that help the bonding experience."
- Nick Foligno
Despite Perry's brief time with the team, his impact on the Blackhawks' locker room is well known.
Currently without a team, Perry has about a month to file a grievance with the NHLPA for wrongful dismissal against the Blackhawks.
