Minutes before what eventually turned into an embarrassing 7-2 loss for the Tampa Bay Lightning, a frustrated Brandon Hagel took a shot on goal after the whistle, just as a fruitless Tampa Power Play came to an end. Senators D-man, Thomas Chabot took offense to that, and immediately went after Hagel. Nic Paul stepped in front, and then all heck broke loose. All 10 players were jammed into the corner, hurling fists over and around refs and linesmen whenever they had the chance.
After everything was sorted out, Brandon Hagel was handed an Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty, Corey Perry received Roughing against Shane Pinnto, and Travis Hamonic from Ottawa was also given a Roughing penalty against Corey Perry.
Coincidentally, the Senators scored on the ensuing Power Play, and the number one assist on that goal was none other than Hagel's former teammate, Alex DeBrincat.
DeBrincat had scored the first two Ottawa goals of the game, and that assist gave him his 3rd point, and earning him the number one star for the night.
So, both former Hawks had big nightsjust in very different ways.
Currently, Alex DeBrincat has 61 points (25G, 36A) in 75 games with the Senators, this season, and Brandon Hagel has 59 points (27G, 32A) this season with the Lightning.
