BREAKING: Washington Capitals Star Russian Forward Alexander Ovechkin Announces Retirement Date
The Russian Juggernaut of goal-scoring has decided to give us a timeline of when he plans to retire.
Ovechkin announced his retirement today, which may be sooner than we anticipated.
Ovechkin is currently in the third year of a five-year contract he signed in 2021 with the Washington Capitals.
As Ovechkin's contract expires in 2026, we will get to see the Great Eight for two more years on the ice before he retires.
During his NHL career, The Great Eight has played 1,396 games and has always been a lethal force on the ice.
As of now, Ovechkin has 836 goals and will have two more years after this season to break Gretzky's record.
All of this assumes Ovechkin stays healthy as he climbs the 58-goal barrier.
As of now, Ovechkin has 836 goals and 686 assists for a total of 1522 points in the NHL.
