Olympic boxing, regarding the match of Imane Khelif, an Algerian female boxer, and Angela Carini, an Italian boxer.
There questions about Khelif's gender, because of her lack of feminity as regarded by people accustomed to different beauty standards in Europe, US, and Canada. Her testosterone levels were in question, and she was accused of being a man.
A ridiculous notion, after Carini took a punch and quit.
Of which Angela Price saw fit to place her thumb on the scale of public opinion, and many will agree with her, despite it being a false accusation.
Khelif has been under the radar after Carini quit after being punched 46 seconds into the match.
The rhetoric has fueled harmful reactions, including Olympian Katie Ledecky being part of the reaction, as result. Angela Price giving it oxygen is just as harmful.
The IOC, the Olympic regulating body has stated that Imane Khelif, was born a woman. Despite this the unreasonable, and unkind rhetoric continues as a result of lies spread.
People can offer their opinions on a multitude of topics and scenarios, but the humanity of others isn't up for grabs.
To blindly repeat the rhetoric of this nature is harmful and is nothing short of contemptuous for regulating authorities, and will undermine women of all shapes, sizes and looks as a result.
We'll likely never see an apology from Angela Price, but humility from the Price camp would be a great start after blindly repeating something incorrect and wrong.
