It was announced that Steve McMichael a long time Chicago Bears defensive tackle will be heading to the Pro football Hall of Fame as he continues to battle ALS. This fantastic addition to the football Hall of Fame has brought to light the renewed question of why Steve Larmer, the former Chicago Blackhawk is not in the hockey hall of fame.
Larmer, was drafted by the Blackhawks in 1980, 6th round 120th overall. His career spanned from 1980 through 1995 and played for only two NHL organizations. Most of his career was with the Blackhawks, and he spent this last two seasons with the New York Rangers.
His stats line is impressive has he played 1006 games, scoring 441 goals with 571 assists for 1012 points and was a + 203 with 532 penalty minutes. Though the Hall of Fame does not always take in winning the Stanley Cup, Larmer won the Stanley Cup with the New York Rangers in 1994 where he played 68 games, scored 21 goals with 39 assists for 60 points and was a + 14.
It still baffles me to this day why he is not in the Hall of Fame as he rose to the occasion and was an impact player for both teams during his career. The committee who decides who should enter the Hall should correct this mistake and put Larmer in the Hall of Fame the other greats.
