Former NHL veteran faces serious backlash after mocking womens sports
Bobby Ryan has stirred up controversy on social media after making several posts poking fun at women's sports.
It all started when Meghan Chayka, cofounder of Stathletes, mentioned on X that many people were tuning in to women's college basketball. Ryan didn't seem to agree and responded with a post of his own, sparking over 500 replies.
In his response, Ryan challenged others to name seven players from women's sports, which led to widespread criticism.
Despite the backlash, Ryan, a former NHL player, stood his ground, even sending out another post dismissing the importance of women's sports.
Media personalities, including TSN's Chris Johnston, criticized Ryan for his comments.
Since stepping away from professional hockey, Ryan has delved into the media world, co-hosting a podcast. His co-host, Brent Wallace, expressed disagreement with Ryan's views, stating he does not support his behavior.
Wallace apologized to those affected by Ryan's remarks and promised to address the issue further.
