In a shocking report, former Stanley Cup Champion Jake Guentzel will reportedly head to the 2024 free agency frenzy this summer and explore options in hopes to sign a new contract.
He is the second-best ranked free agent of this year, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.
With the Chicago Blackhawks having $35 million in open cap space, and general manager Kyle Davidson stating he is ready to bring in reinforcement to help Connor Bedard and this organization get back into a winning culture, it's clear that Guentzel is being looked at as an option in Chicago.
Not only does Guentzel have 1 Stanley Cup, he has 2 underneath his belt with the Pittsburgh Penguins and a lot of leadership capabilities- something the Chicago Blackhawks are in search for, to help the youth properly develop.
Guentzel has been a 40-goal scorer multiple times in his career, this past season finished with 30 goals, 47 assists and 77 points in 67 games- the perfect playmaker for Connor Bedard?
As the second best free agent available, he is reportedly in search for $9.5 million on a long-term contract, which is where Kyle Davidson can come in and make it official.
We all know that Davidson is aggressive when he calls for it, such as trading away Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat and also letting players walk in free agency such as Dylan Strome, so this off-season just got a whole lot more interesting.
The real question is, should the Blackhawks pay Guentzel's asking price of $9.5M per season?
