Unfortunate incident occurs during Edmonton Oilers vs Boston Bruins game on Friday night in the NHL
In a 3-2 overtime thrilling game between the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers on Friday night, a scary moment occurred when an official, Travis Toomey, took a cannon of a shot to the hand, going down in pain.
TD Forss, the Edmonton Oilers' athletic therapist went and provided medical assistance, advising Toomey to head down the tunnel to the locker room.
Diagnosed with a fractured hand, Toomey ultimately would not return to the game.
Unlike the Ebug who is an emergency goaltender who waits in the stands in case both goaltenders are injured on one team there does not appear to be an emergency referee or linesperson available. During some games, the linesperson can be injured usually by an errant puck that would strike them.
-Oilers Daily
Dating back to January 20th of 2023, Toomey suffered a serious laceration on his hand when he was officiating an Edmonton Oilers vs Tampa Bay Lightning game, which resulted in a whopping twelve stitches needed.
Talk about bad luck, huh?
NHL referees are truly under appreciated and battle injuries like the athletes who take the ice each and every game.
They deserve the same appreciation!
Us at Hawksinsider would like to wish Travis Toomey a speedy recovery!
