One year ago marks heartbreak for Blackhawks fans and Jonathan Toews
There was something that happened a year ago today, which reverberated throughout the culture of the Blackhawks organization.
Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks organization wouldn't renew Captain Jonathan Toews contract.
He chose to prioritize his health and decided to step away from the game of hockey as well.
Toews closed the book on his career in Chicago, securing Three-Stanley Cups, and his final game came before the beginning of the rebuild for the Blackhawks.
He and the Hawks would go on to lose 5-4 to the Flyers that night, on April 13th, 2023.
"The thought of playing for another team right now is so far in the back of my mind right now, especially after that moment," Toews said. "I always thought I'd retire a Blackhawk and part of me still believes in that, so we'll see."
As a result of his suffering from CIS and Long-Covid, his career was shortened unfortunately.
However, he left a legacy and a legendary career in Chicago which made hockey in Chicago fun and exciting to watch, during the dynasty of the 2010-2015 seasons.
