Ovechkin confirms retirement: he is leaving North America
Alex Ovechkin is currently on the hunt to upend Wayne Gretzky's All-Time Goals Score record in the NHL. However, there is a day he'll retire from the NHL, and when that day occurs it's likely he'll say "Goodbye" to the United States.
Ovechkin makes a statement of fact, if he wasn't enjoying playing the game of hockey, he would've retired already, even if he was still trying to beat Wayne Gretzky's record.
Ovechkin recently revealed in an interview once he retired from the NHL he'd retire home and return to Russia. Leaving North America for good.
«In Russia, all my friends, relatives, Nastya's relatives are here too,» Ovechkin said. «I feel more comfortable in Russia at the moment than there. [When] our season is ending, and we want to fly home right away because we miss home, our family, our friends.»
All the while, Ovechkin is just 41 goals shy of defeating Wayne Gretzky's all-time goals record in the NHL.
Treasure the time with Ovi now, as it is a dwindling commodity for us hockey fans.
