As the NHL trade deadline nears on March 8, playoff hopefuls are eyeing goalie options.
On Wednesday, the Philadelphia Flyers put goalie Cal Petersen on waivers.
Petersen, 29, joined the Flyers last summer in a trade. Previously, he played five seasons with the Los Angeles Kings. He was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in 2013 but never played for them.
In his recent games with the Flyers, Petersen went 1-1-0, allowing 11 goals on 65 shots. He has a 3.90 goals-against average and an .864 save percentage in five games this season. This may be a solid backup option for NHL teams, especially the Chicago Blackhawks who are struggling with their backup option in Arvid Soderblom.
With uncertainty surrounding Carter Hart due to legal issues, the Flyers seem to be relying on Samuel Ersson in goal.
