Tragedy strikes Sports world as Football phenom dies at age 16
In tragic news, 16-year-old high school quarterback, Caden Tellier would pass away during a football game on Friday.
Friday night, 16-year-old Caden Tellier succumbed to a severe head injury that happened during a game.
Caden Tellier, was a junior at Morgan Academy in Selma, and would suffer a critical injury during the third quarter in a game against Southern Academy. According to the headmaster of Morgan Academy, Bryan Olivier, he had succumbed to a brain injury due to a brutal tackle.
He would be rapidly transported to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital, but wouldn't survive.
The family would update their community via social media:
«We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Caden Tellier has passed away,» they posted on Facebook. «We are grateful for your prayers and ask for continued support during this difficult time. Caden's life was a testament to kindness and generosity, and his legacy will continue to touch lives even in his passing. His life has made a difference, and now, his donation will save lives.»
According to Michael McClendon, who is Executive Director of the Alabama Independent School Association, it appeared that Tellier would experienced a ruptured brain vessel after a tackle following a routine play.
He did mention that the matter was still being investigated and further information would be released to the public when it is found.
Morgan Academy would also release a statement to the community commending Tellier's impact there:
«The grief we feel is beyond words,» the statement read. «Caden's memory will forever remain with us, and his impact on Morgan Academy will never be forgotten.»
As a result of his passing, the school has canceled all sports activities for the time being including the game against Wilcox Academy.
